Launch of the EU Jean Monnet Chair “Multifaceted Approaches to Migration in the EU and Turkey”

Launch of the EU Jean Monnet Chair “Multifaceted Approaches to Migration in the EU and Turkey” was organized on 11 October 2019 at Yaşar University Selçuk Campus with participation of Yaşar University Rector Prof. Dr. Cemali Dinçer, academics, students and representatives from Izmir Governorship, Metropolitan Municipality of Izmır and UNHCR.

The event was moderated by Prof. Dr. Aylin Güney, the Dean of Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, and started with the opening speech of Yaşar University Rector Prof. Dr. Cemali Dinçer. Then, the Chair Holder Assoc Prof. Dr. Gökay Özerim introduced the new project and explained the activities that will be undertaken during the three-year period of this project.

Özlem Gül, EU Office Project Expert of Izmır Governorship; Yelda Şimşir, Project Officer of Izmır Metropolitan Municipality and Eylül Başak Tuncel, Senior Protection Assistant of UNHCR provided information about projects and activities carried out by their institutions within the scope of migration and social integration of migrants.

This Chair on Multifaceted Approaches to Migration in the EU and Turkey is funded by the European Commission Erasmus + Jean Monnet programme and aims to deepen knowledge on European integration and European studies from the perspective of immigration issues in Europe and by bringing representatives from different sectors of migration governance together.

Jean Monnet Chair Project; “Multifaceted Approaches to Migration in the EU and Turkey”, will be implemented between years 2019 – 2022 under the coordination of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökay Özerim, together with the team members including Prof. Dr. Aylin Güney, Dr. Lecturer Elif Çetin, Güldan Kalem and international guest lecturers.
