GREEN NIGHT Project Kick-Off Meeting

The kick-off meeting of the European Researchers’ Night project which is the only ERN project approved from Turkey this year under the framework of Horizon 2020 entitled “GREEN NIGHT” held on Tuesday May 25th, 2021 as an online meeting.

Participants from Yaşar University, Ege University, Izmir Institute of Technology, Izmir Katip Çelebi University and Izmir Provincial Directorate of National Education were joined the meeting. Partners reviewed the work packages, tasks and time schedule in order to ensure effective project management during the meeting.

Taking its name from the European Green Deal, GREEN NIGHT stands on the main pillars and policy areas of the strategy with a general outlook on how science can support the aims and targets set out for Europe’s near future. The current global climate emergency urges an immediate and large-scale response from the countries. For the first time, climate change and environmental issues are seen to have migrated to the center of global policymaking. As a result, GREEN NIGHT highlights the importance of raising awareness of the general public, especially young people, on the necessity of the green transformation for the future of our planet.

The European Researchers’ Night aims to bring researchers closer to the general public and to increase awareness of research and innovation activities, with a view to supporting the public recognition of researchers, creating an understanding of the impact of researchers’ work on citizen’s daily life, and encouraging young people to embark on research careers. The European Researchers’ Night takes place yearly, typically starting on the last Friday of the month of September. It is the occasion for a Europe-wide public and media event for the promotion of research careers, in particular towards young people and their families.
